Kaaka · community help line

One call. Location follows.

Kaaka turns one Android phone and a laptop into a help line. A missed call gets an instant reply, the nearest responder is alerted, and the caller appears on a live map. All over plain SMS, with no mobile data needed.

How it works

From a missed call to a closed incident.

Six steps, most of them automatic. The caller never has to explain where they are.

  1. Caller · any phone

Calls or texts the Kaaka number

A plain call, or an SMS with HELP, SOS or സഹായം for someone who cannot talk.

  2. Kaaka number

Rejects the call, replies by SMS

Free for the caller. The reply says help is being arranged and, in immediate danger, to call 112.

  3. Caller's phone

The reply starts the location beacon

With Kaaka Sensors installed, GPS reports flow back automatically. Without it, a link lets them share location from the browser.

  4. Responders

    The nearest responder is dispatched

Distance and ETA by SMS, with a map link and “Reply ACK to confirm”. Nobody answers in five minutes? A reminder goes out.

  5. Control room

One incident, on a live map

Calls, help texts, alerts and the caller's route are grouped per caller, with the nearest responder drawn on the map.

  6. Caller or responder

    Closed when help arrives

A responder texts RESOLVE, or the caller texts SAFE. Everything stays on record for later.

Watch it happen

One call, start to finish.

The loop Kaaka runs for every caller: a call, an instant reply, a moving location, the nearest responder, and a text that closes it. Played here in about twenty seconds.

What you get

Three small parts. One help line.

Gateway app

The Kaaka number

↗

An Android phone that screens every incoming call, including saved contacts, replies by SMS, texts responders and reports to the control room. Works with the screen locked.

Caller app

Kaaka Sensors

↗

An SOS button, fall detection, a safety timer and an “I'm safe” button. Location reports go out even when Android won't let the app open itself.

Dashboard

The control room

↗

Live incidents and routes, history with search, analytics, a responder registry and desktop notifications. Runs on any laptop.

Help, in Malayalam

Someone who cannot talk can text HELP, SOS or സഹായം. Kaaka handles it like a call: an auto-reply, responders alerted, and an incident on the map.

Control room

See every caller. Know who is going.

A browser dashboard that turns calls and texts into incidents people can act on.

Live

Open incidents and routes

Each caller's trail on the map, the nearest responder with distance and ETA, and an alert when the gateway phone goes silent.

History

Every incident, searchable

Search by number, filter by outcome and date, open a full timeline, export to CSV.

Analytics

What the help line is doing

Contacts per day by channel, peak hours, outcomes and a responder leaderboard.

Safety by design

Built for the worst moment, not the best one.

Works without data

Plain calls and SMS

Basic phones, weak signal, no balance for data. A rejected call costs the caller nothing.

Location stays private

Only the Kaaka number can start it

The caller's beacon starts only for a reply from their configured Kaaka number. A stranger cannot request it.

Protected dashboard

Locked before it goes public

The server refuses a public address without an admin token, and replies are rate-limited per caller.

Alongside 112

Never instead of it

Every reply points to 112 for immediate danger. Kaaka adds location, tracking and a responder loop.

For campuses, colonies and families

Kaaka is open source. Set up the Kaaka number, add your responders, and open the control room on any laptop.
